The Weekly Review

from Mystie Winckler

Hello, again!

I've not sent a weekly newsletter in a few weeks, so I made it a priority to get one out today. Enjoy the new format!

construction work this week: roof

Matt is putting on all the layers that go underneath a roof. We ordered our roof last week and are hoping it will arrive by early November. We went with a metal roof so that Matt won't have shingles to replace after every (frequent) wind storm.

New? My software-developer husband is building us a 5000sqft house (including accommodations for his parents in the basement) himself, mostly solo. Get the story here.

#146: Religious Habits

Is religion the kind of thing that we can habit train? Are religious habits supposed to be part of our homeschool plan? If so, how so?

Takeaway from Convivial Circle this week:

In a discussion of iteration, many ladies were sharing how they motivated themselves to get started. I loved Robyn's tip:

I use the homemaking accountability thread A LOT. If there’s a lot to get done and/or I’m feeling overwhelmed and I really need to focus, I find that just listing the first three things I’m going to do makes a huge difference. I suppose I could just put it down on a piece of scrap paper or something too, but the act of narrowing down my first three bite-size actions enables to me just start. After that, it snowballs. Sometimes I don’t even come back to the thread to list the next three because I’m just plowing through the tasks!
